What it describes
Your natural way of acting is to bring to completion what needs to be finished, passed on, or let go. The 9 carries the closing of a cycle, and in concrete terms that shows up as a reflex to close cleanly what is dragging, to pass on what needs passing on, rather than leaving things hanging indefinitely.
This way of acting carries a real generosity in the gesture itself: when you give your time or your attention, it is almost never calculated, it is an almost automatic movement toward whatever seems to need it, without expecting a precise return. It is not sacrifice, it is the very meaning of the 9: what circulates freely always comes back, in one form or another.
This talent shows itself through one precise reflex: faced with a situation or a project dragging on endlessly, you rarely leave things hanging, you more often push, gently but surely, toward a real closing.
I do not like leaving things hanging. I need them to end cleanly.
What have you recently helped to close or to pass on, rather than letting it drag on indefinitely?
How it is calculated
Each letter of your full birth name — first names and surname, the name you were given at birth — is given a value from 1 to 9, following the order of the alphabet: A is 1, B is 2, and so on to I is 9, then J starts again at 1.
All those values are added together, then reduced to a single digit — except 11, 22 and 33, which are kept as they are.
Your married name, a chosen name or a nickname does not change this number. It is calculated from the name you were given.

A worked example
Take the name MARIA MARTIN. Every letter of the name is counted.
M 4 · A 1 · R 9 · I 9 · A 1 · M 4 · A 1 · R 9 · T 2 · I 9 · N 5
Added together, that gives 54, then 5 + 4 = 9 — expression number 9.
